King’s Way Athletics is pleased to announce the appointment of interim head boys basketball coach Ty Johnson, to the role of head boys basketball coach at King’s Way High School.
Ty’s basketball roots started at Trico League rival Castle Rock High School, where he enjoyed a successful career playing for his father, Kevin Johnson. In a Rocket uniform, Ty was a three time all-league selection and an all-state selection his senior year while earning a sixth place finish at the state tournament. After an academic stint at the University of Kansas (Go Jayhawks!), Ty went on to graduate with a BS in Kinesiology from Sacramento State and a BA in secondary education from Central Washington in 2022. In 2021, King’s Way hired Ty to teach 7th grade Bible and middle school PE. That same year, he also joined Coach Daven Harmeling’s staff as an assistant. After two years as an assistant, Ty has earned the right to step into the head coaching role.
Ty’s familiarity with King’s Way Basketball and his strong rapport with our students were important factors in his selection as the next leader for a program with nine consecutive state tournament appearances. Ty states, “Being chosen to lead such an amazing program is exciting and I am extremely grateful. I love to compete and teach the game of basketball, but nothing compares to the building up of young men in Christ’s character.”
Please help us welcome Ty Johnson as the next head boys basketball coach at King’s Way Christian High School!
