I am sending this letter on behalf of the King’s Way Christian School leadership team with deep regret, concern, and emotion. Thursday, March 24, the Seton Catholic squad competed against King’s Way Christian in a soccer match. The game was a battle that ended in a 2-2 score in regulation and overtime periods. David Moore (Seton Catholic athlete) prepared to take his penalty kick during the shootout. Unfortunately, during his kick, someone in the King’s Way student section made “monkey-like noises” loud enough to be heard from several people. The incident was heard in the video.

Currently, our internal investigation has confirmed that the offensive noises did not come from King’s Way students; however, the investigation is ongoing.  Using the incident as a learning opportunity, King’s Way held a high school assembly to remind our students of the pain and insidiousness of racism and that racism is not tolerated.

On behalf of the King’s Way community, I want to apologize to David Moore. David is a phenomenal athlete that is a joy to watch as he showcases his talents in the game of soccer. David deserves to play the game he loves with heart, effort, and peace of mind for his safety.

As we seek to handle the matter like Jesus, I want to encourage our King’s Way community to respect and encourage each other despite the actions of a few unruly, ignorant fans.

In addition, King’s Way is directly reaching out to the Moore family to apologize for the incident.

Sincerely,
Dr. Jason Tindol
Superintendent
