 Please take a few minutes to read through the following very important guidelines, questions, and answers regarding our 2021 graduation ceremony on June 11th and the candlelight ceremony on June 3rd. 

Please understand that we are doing our very, very best to have a wonderful graduation ceremony that truly honors and celebrates your graduates while still adhering to the State of Washington (Department of Health) mandates that are outlined for high school graduations.

We are having a Candlelight Ceremony (KW tradition) for our graduating seniors on Thursday, June 3rd from 9:40-10:00am in the Vancouver Church sanctuary during our chapel time. ONLY parents of seniors are invited to attend if they would like to come since seating will be limited and we need to adhere to COVID protocols. Please see below for additional details regarding the Candlelight Ceremony.

  • Please arrive for the Candlelight Ceremony by 9:30 at the latest so you have time to get your temperature taken and find a seat. Someone will be outside the main sanctuary entrance to take temperatures. 
  • Only senior parents are allowed to attend. Please no additional family or friends.
  • Please follow all COVID protocols while in the church sanctuary (masks and social distancing).
  • Please complete this RSVP form no later than Wednesday, June 2nd, at midnight if you plan to attend the Candlelight Ceremony on June 3rd. 





When is graduation?

Graduation is Saturday, June 12th at 1:00pm. 

Where is graduation?

Graduation is located in the Vancouver Church Sanctuary on the King’s Way campus at 3300 NE 78th St, Vancouver, WA 98665

What time do the graduates need to arrive?

Graduates need to be at KW at noon on the day of graduation. They should meet in the HS gym. 

Is there a graduation rehearsal?

YES – There is a mandatory graduation rehearsal on Friday, June 11th at 1pm in the sanctuary. All graduates MUST attend.

Will there be lunch before rehearsal?

Some of the senior parents have generously offered to provide lunch for the students prior to the graduation rehearsal. Please come at 12:30 to enjoy lunch in the courtyard before rehearsal!

How many tickets will my family get?

Each student will receive 8 tickets for family and friends. The graduate does not need a ticket. 

When will tickets be distributed?

Students or parents can pick up their tickets in the HS office starting Tuesday, June 1st. 

Are tickets required to enter the sanctuary for graduation?

Yes. Each person must present their own ticket. Tickets will be taken at the door.

What if we need more tickets?

Each student will be given a maximum of 8 tickets. If you need more, you have the following options:

  1. Invite family members to sit in overflow seating (see below for details). 
  2. View the live stream or recording (more info below). 
  3. Check back at the HS office at the end of the week to see if any families returned unnecessary tickets. First come, first served.

Can other King’s Way students (9th-11th graders) attend graduation?

Yes, if they have a ticket. They may not otherwise. 

When will we be able to enter the VC Sanctuary?

Doors will open for family and friends at 12:15pm on the day of graduation. 

How will we be seated?

Families/groups (up to 8) will be seated in pods throughout the sanctuary. The pods will be distanced (6 ft) from other pods. 

Will there be social distancing?

All pods will be seated 6 feet from other pods. During the reception, we ask everyone to try to maintain a 6 ft distance.  

What if I need to be very socially distanced?

You are welcome to view the live stream from home (see below) or sit in our “overflow seating” on campus (see below).

How are pods chosen?

The week of June 1st, the Leadership Team will be doing a random drawing to assign pod numbers to families. If you would like to make a special accommodation request regarding seating, please email Kate Paul (katepaul@kwcs.org) before June 1st outlining your request. We will do our best to honor these requests. Families who have a student speaking/performing at graduation will have reserved seating closer to the front.

Do we have to wear masks?

Yes, masks are required throughout the entirety of graduation (before, during the ceremony, and afterwards during the reception). Graduates may take their masks off when they cross the stage to get their diploma.

Do we have to get our temperature taken?

Yes, we will be taking temperatures of all guests upon entrance.

Can I come to graduation if I am sick?

No. If you are not feeling well (any symptoms), please do not attend the graduation ceremony. Symptom Flow Chart.

If I’m quarantined (either through KW or outside of KW), can I come to graduation?


Do I need to follow COVID protocols between now and then?

Please be careful with exposure and COVID protocols between now and June 12th so that you aren’t sick or in quarantine on the day of graduation. 

Are we allowed to take photos during the graduation ceremony?

Yes, but we ask that you not move around the sanctuary during the ceremony. We’ll have two professional photographers that will be taking photos of each student as he/she crosses the stage to receive his/her diploma. Parents will have FREE access to the entire digital bank of photos a week after the graduation and King’s Will print and send parents an 8’x10″ print of each graduate. 

Is there a reception?

Yes, there will be a brief reception following the ceremony. Graduates can take pictures with their families during this time. 

Will graduation be live streamed?

Yes – All information regarding the live stream will be on the KW website graduation page

Will there be a video recording of graduation?

Yes – A video recording will be sent out after graduation. 

Is there overflow seating on campus?

Yes – Room 120 in the ES building will be open for overflow seating and will show a live stream of the event. This room has a maximum capacity of 60 guests and will be first come, first serve. All COVID protocols will be followed here as well.

What is the Candlelight Ceremony?

The Candlelight Ceremony is a KW tradition where graduating seniors “pass the torch” to the incoming senior class (current juniors). 

When is the Candlelight Ceremony?

Thursday, June 3rd at 9:40. The ceremony will last approximately 20 minutes.

Where is it?

In the VC Sanctuary. 

Who can attend?

Parents of graduates are invited to attend the Candlelight Ceremony. No other guests may attend this year – thank you for understanding!

Do I need to RSVP?

Yes, please RSVP for the Candlelight Ceremony using THIS LINK.

What protocols need to be followed?

All COVID protocols will be followed (same as graduation). Parents and graduates are asked to please wear masks the entire time, maintain 6 ft distance, and spread out over the sanctuary when seated.
